Inquiring the Necessity of Social Work Intervention in Community-based End of Life Care

Abstract
This study tried to inquire he necessity of social work intervention in community-based end of life care run by health personnel. For this, we reviewed concept of community care and end of life care and then conducted focus group interview(FGI) against hands-on staffs and relevant experts who provide hospice palliative care to house staying cancer patients and client of end of life care in community. The result shows that the desire of end of life patients is complex beyond medical desire and that hands-on staffs primarily consisting of health personnel have difficulties due to whole people"s circumstances, shortage of social welfare information, burden of work connected to resource, control of volunteers and shortage of personnel in hospice. Additionally, they say that sharing and connection of information is difficult in trying to connect social welfare service and even after successful connection, communication is not available and it is not easy to secure quality of service. Hands-on staffs recognize that health and welfare in end of life care of community is overlapped. This study has suggested that in order to improve efficiency of service, building relationship between health and welfare, control of unification examples and exchange of personnel is required.
